Our Attorneys

Donny J. Laws

Donny Laws has practiced law in Yancey County for 41 years. He is well-known in the community for his sports accomplishments including a stellar run playing basketball for the Mountain Heritage Cougars, followed by a two-year stint playing Junior Varsity basketball for the Carolina Tar Heels. For years, Donny has been seen cycling and winning bike races throughout these mountains he's called home since birth.

Donny loves any sport with a ball, he and his wife, Susan Reinhardt, a journalist and author, have joined the pickleball movement and play often. Donny enjoys spending time with his family, traveling with his wife, and dreaming of retirement. He's excited that his son, Sidney has joined the Laws & Laws firm.

Graduated with honors from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981 with a BA in Ancient History. Following undergrad, he remained in Chapel Hill and obtained his J.D. in 1984 from UNC School of Law.

Sidney B. Laws

Sidney is a second-generation attorney and Yancey County native. He lives in Burnsville with his Wife, Sarah, and their nephew, Eli. Sidney was a registered nurse for 8 years before making the decision to pursue a legal career. He has deep ties to his community and strives to provide excellent legal services to his clients. In his free time, Sidney enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, playing pickleball, reading, and spending time with the family dog, Reggie.
